Uzbek Wikipedia has reached 20,000 articles

The Uzbek Wikipedia (uz.wikipedia.org) at last reached 20 thousand articles on 5 July, 2012. The milestone article was about Meteorology.

As it has been righteously pointed out, the recent article count boost is mostly due to bot-created articles. The main reason behind this rather shameful an act is to spread the word about the current blockage of the Uzbek Wikipedia in the territory of Uzbekistan. In addition, we would like to attract more regular users. (Yes, we are well aware of the bitter experience of the Volapük Wikipedia, but the case of the Uzbek Wikipedia is different - there are plenty of Uzbek speakers, but they don't know about the existence of Wikipedia in their own language.)

Among the Wikipedias in the languages of the Central Asia nations, the Uzbek Wikipedia is now behind only the Kazakh Wikipedia. The table below lists the number of articles in the Central Asian editions of Wikipedia.

Editions of Wikipedia Number of Articles
Kazakh Wikipedia 238 077
Kyrgyz Wikipedia 77 056
Tajik Wikipedia 114 011
Turkmen Wikipedia 6 895
