Birinchi marta medal 1877 yilda spektral analiz boʻyicha izlanishlari uchun Robert Wilhelm Bunsen va Gustav Robert Kirchhoffga topshirilgan va shu kungacha 140 nafar olimlar bu sovrin bilan mukofatlangan. Sovrin Qirollik Jamiyatining boshqa (masalan Hughes) sovrinlardan farqli oʻlaroq har yili uzilishlarsiz topshiriladi.

Baʼzi yillarda bir yilning oʻzida bir necha olim ushbu medal bilan taqdirlangan. Masalan: 1882-yilda Dmitriy Mendeleyev va Julius Lothar Meyer elementlarning atom massasi va davriy xossalarini kashf etganlari uchun; 1883-yilda Marcelin Barthelot va Julius Thomsen termo-kimyo yoʻnalishidagi izlanishlari uchun; 1893-yilda Jacobus Henricus vanʼt Hoff va Joseph Achille Le Bel assimmetrik uglerod nazariyasi va uning optik aktiv uglerod biirikmalari konstitutsiyasini tushuntirishdagi vazifasini kashf etganlari uchun; 1903-yilda Pierre Curie va Marie Curie radiy elementi ustidagi izlanishlari uchun va 1968-yilda John Cornforth va George Joseph Popják hamkorlikda poliizeprenoidlar va steroidlarda kechadigan biosintez jarayonini tushuntirganliklari uchun Davy medali bilan taqdirlanishgan.
